A free UFRRJ and Rede Incluir course offers 250 slots for managers and HR to drive effective workplace inclusion of people with disabilities.
A free course will select Brazilian managers to expand the effective inclusion of people with disabilities in the labor market. Promoted by the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ) and Instituto Rede Incluir, the 2026 edition has opened 250 places for managers, HR professionals, and organizational leaders.
Registration is now open for the extension course “Person with Disability in the World of Work: accessibility, inclusive culture and the right to work”. The program is a partnership between the Observatory for Comparative Education, Inclusion and Social Rights (ObECIDS/UFRRJ) and Instituto Rede Incluir, a nonprofit organization nationally recognized for its work in employability for people with disabilities.
PwD inclusion and Brazil’s current gap
According to Brazil’s 2022 Census by IBGE, the country has 14.4 million people with disabilities, representing 7.3% of the population. The data show deep inequalities in access to work and education, highlighting structural barriers in the labor market.
Figures from the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE) indicate that 63,328 people with disabilities were hired between January and June 2025. Even so, only about 54% of the jobs reserved under Brazil’s quota law are currently filled, underscoring the challenge companies face in meeting legal requirements and delivering meaningful inclusion.
Practical training for leaders
In its first year, the course offered 150 seats and received more than 500 applications—over three times the initial capacity. It targets professionals working in HR, people management, leadership, diversity, communication, health, and related fields, with a hands-on approach focused on daily organizational practice.
“This course is not isolated theoretical or academic content. It is impact-driven training so participants build real skills in inclusion and accessibility when hiring and supporting professionals with disabilities on their teams,” says Antoniel Bastos, president of Instituto Rede Incluir.
The methodology is live online, combining dialogue-based classes, practical activities, and expert participation. It also includes testimonies from people with disabilities about their workplace experiences. In the previous edition, the program reached 98% active participation, according to the organizers.
“Starting in 2026, we will expand the workload from 35 to 60 hours and increase the number of seats, reflecting the urgency to train leaders who understand, practice, and defend inclusion in the daily life of organizations,” explains Prof. Dr. Carline Santos Borges, the project coordinator at UFRRJ.
Upon completion, participants receive an official UFRRJ certificate in partnership with Instituto Rede Incluir, adding professional value and supporting the implementation of inclusive strategies, policies, and practices within companies.
