Event at CEAT, in Santa Teresa, joins the Italian Language and Gastronomy Weeks with music, dance, and tastings.
The CEAT, in Santa Teresa, will host the Italy in the Castle event on November 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The initiative is part of the Italian Language Week 2025, themed “Italy Beyond Borders”, and the Italian Gastronomy Week. Admission is free, and the event is sponsored by the Società Dante Alighieri.
Program with gastronomy, dance, and music
Visitors will enjoy cooking classes with chef and teacher Alessandra Sposetti and a traditional Pizzica dance workshop from the Puglia region, taught by Sulamita Costa. There will also be a lecture on immigration and coffee by Rodolfo Teichner, producer of the award-winning Nolita coffee, addressing Italian immigration in Brazil and coffee cultivation. The session includes freshly roasted and ground coffee tasting.
The Italo-Brazilian group Bossa é Massa, featuring Roman singer Francesca Lo Cicero, will perform Brazilian songs that were adapted into Italian, especially bossa nova classics. The event also includes a wine tasting led by sommelier Alessandra Rodrigues, and participation from Casa do Sardo and other local producers.
Italian flavors and traditions in Santa Teresa
Visitors can taste Italian-style pizza and gelato from Pizza al Taglio and Gelati by Leandro Migani. At the end, a basket with Italian products and Chico Buarque’s book “Bambino a Roma” will be raffled.
“Our activities were carefully designed to present to Rio’s residents the richness of Italian culture. Santa Teresa, known as the Calabrian Rio, has deep ties with Italian immigration,” said Lucas Hippolito, CEAT’s academic director.
“We are extremely happy to have CEAT as our partner. The Florentine-style castle is the perfect setting to celebrate the Italian language and culture,” said Maximiliano Loschiavo, president of the Comité Dante Alighieri Rio de Janeiro.
The Italy in the Castle event also receives support from the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Brazil, the Italian Cultural Institute, and the European Institute of Design.
