Muato brings “Derê – Concerto Sobre o Pagode” to Teatro Firjan SESI Centro on December 8 with an innovative poetic-musical proposal.
A singular voice in the contemporary Brazilian artistic scene, the award-winning multi-artist Muato presents his new show “Derê – Concerto Sobre o Pagode” at Teatro Firjan SESI Centro. The performance takes place on December 8, Monday, at 7 p.m.
After successful presentations across the state of Rio de Janeiro, the show offers an innovative immersion into the Pagode repertoire born in Rio’s suburbs in the 1990s.
An experience between music, manifesto, and poetry
The project moves between music, manifesto, and poetry. Muato performs using voice, eight-string guitar, electric guitar, loop pedals, samples, and technological resources.
The result is a powerful poetic-musical performance. His voice does not only sing. It becomes a territory of re-existence through memory.
“In ‘DERÊ – CONCERTO SOBRE O PAGODE’, I present, as a show-manifesto, a ritual that dances with memory to unfold it into new territories. A settlement in the terreiro of pagode that reveals a sonic and poetic diaspora often obscured by prejudice,” explains Muato.
Direction and creative team
The show shares general direction between Muato and Caroline Monlleo. Musical direction is by Muato and Marcelo Fedrá.
Costumes are by Fernanda Garcia. Set design is by Raphael Elias. Lighting and projection are by Diego Avila. Sound is by Bob Reis. Graphic design is by Rodrigo Cantalício.
An award-winning career
Singer, composer, instrumentalist, actor, and musical director, Muato has received consistent recognition. He won the Shell Theatre Award for music.
He also won the APTR award for musical direction and the FITA award for best music. Internationally, he was awarded by the Deutscher Rock & Pop Preis Awards in Germany.
Originally from Vila Isabel in Rio de Janeiro, his initial training in concert music expanded into a multifaceted career marked by technical excellence and deep aesthetic research.
At this moment, the artist invests in solo work to strengthen his discourse. His presence moves between singer and thinker.
