The seventh episode of Pesadelo na Cozinha — Brazil’s version of Kitchen Nightmares — is set to be one of the most alarming yet. This Tuesday (7) at 10:30 PM, Band broadcasts chef Erick Jacquin‘s visit to Café Cultura Bar, a long-standing establishment in downtown Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, that has been operating for 16 years with growing and largely ignored problems.

A bar with promise, but no direction

Café Cultura Bar is owned by former soccer player Rafael Leite, who founded the venue 16 years ago. Over time, the business expanded without structure and now sits on the edge of collapse — largely because its owner refuses to acknowledge the issues.

The most alarming problem involves the building itself. Electrical and plumbing installations, built by Rafael himself, are left exposed and regularly give employees electric shocks. Despite this, the owner remains proud of his work: “Jacquin is going to have to work very hard to convince me of any changes, because everything here was done by me.”

Jacquin holds nothing back

After refusing to taste certain dishes and taking a close look at the kitchen, Jacquin reaches his breaking point. His verdict is blunt:

Your restaurant stinks, it’s filthy and it’s horrible. You disrespect the people who work here. This is a disgrace to the profession.

The French chef goes further, warning a customer not to order the liver dish — and inviting him backstage to see exactly how it is prepared. It is one of the episode’s most jaw-dropping moments.

An unusual layout adds to the chaos

Café Cultura Bar operates across two separate buildings with no connecting passage, making daily operations a logistical nightmare. The food pass-through area sits close to the floor, forcing staff to crouch down while handling dishes in that unsanitary environment.

Faced with the owner’s resistance, Jacquin faces one of his toughest challenges this season — pushing to turn real potential into a functional, dignified restaurant.
