Atins ranks among the world’s most stunning beaches

Atins Beach in Lençóis Maranhenses reaches top category in the Corona Beach 100 guide.

The remote village of Atins, in Barreirinhas, Maranhão, was highlighted in the Corona Beach 100 guide, which selects the 100 best beaches on the planet. The ranking evaluates scenic beauty, beach culture and connection with nature. Destinations receive ratings of beautiful, spectacular or unforgettable, and Atins reached the highest level, achieved by only 16 beaches worldwide.

Businessman Saulo Prazeres, managing partner of Vila Aty hotel, states that the beach is one of the village’s greatest assets. “One of the reasons that make Atins the best base for Lençóis Maranhenses is the beach, a unique attraction that expands the range of experiences in the region. From the village, visitors can explore the national park, practice water sports or simply relax to the sound of the sea,” he says.

Located at the mouth of the Preguiças River, the beach is sought after by kitesurfers due to its constant winds and calm waters. Interest grows between September and November, when winds intensify. The village also provides strategic access to the Lençóis Maranhenses, just 2.5 km from the dunes and lagoons, and offers a refined gastronomic and hospitality scene.

Access to this preserved destination is usually by 4×4 vehicles traveling through sandy trails or by boat along the Preguiças River. Both routes depart from Barreirinhas, located 250 km from São Luís. The river route is often preferred for being faster and more comfortable.

Brazil well represented

The Brazilian coastline appears prominently in the guide, with 11 selected beaches spread across the country. Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão, Pará, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte and Santa Catarina are home to the chosen destinations, four of which were ranked as unforgettable. Alongside Atins, the top-tier list also includes Copacabana (RJ), Saco do Mamanguá in Paraty (RJ), and Baía do Sancho in Fernando de Noronha (PE).
