Around 40 tourism leaders gathered in São Paulo to unveil Brazil’s LGBT+ Tourism Manifesto — open for public contributions until March 20.
On Wednesday, February 25, the Entrepreneurship and Research Center of the Museum of Sexual Diversity in São Paulo hosted the launch of the LGBT+ Tourism Manifesto in Brazil. The initiative is a joint effort by IGLTA, the LGBT Chamber of Commerce and Tourism of Brazil, and LGBT+ Turismo Expo, with institutional support from the Museum of Sexual Diversity and travel agency 375 Fun Fest.
The gathering brought together roughly 40 professionals from across the tourism supply chain — hotels, tour operators, travel agencies, travel insurance providers, and destination representatives, among others. The goal: to spark a collaborative conversation on strategies to develop and strengthen LGBT+ tourism in Brazil.
Aligning Brazil with Global Standards
For Clovis Casemiro, IGLTA’s Membership Manager in Brazil, this process is key to positioning the country on the international LGBT+ tourism map.
“Brazil has enormous potential to stand out globally in LGBT+ tourism. Building this manifesto allows us to organize demands, align the private sector, and create a structured dialogue with the government.” — Clovis Casemiro, IGLTA Membership Manager in Brazil
At the event, the initial draft of the manifesto was presented and opened for group discussion, generating numerous contributions and proposals for improvement.
Open to the Entire Industry
Starting March 1, the document will be made available on a participatory platform. Beyond event attendees, all professionals working in LGBT+ tourism in Brazil will be able to submit ideas, initiatives, and suggestions for the final version. Contributions are welcome until March 20.
On the same date, the initial draft of the “February Letter” will also be released — a document outlining concrete short-, medium-, and long-term action proposals to boost LGBT+ tourism in Brazil. Both documents are expected to be published by March 30 and subsequently submitted to federal, state, and municipal public bodies, as well as private sector stakeholders.
“This manifesto is born from a collective effort within the tourism trade and reflects the market’s maturity in understanding LGBT+ tourism as a strategic pillar of economic development, inclusion, and Brazil’s international positioning.” — Alex Bernardes, Director of LGBT+ Turismo Expo
A Landmark — and a Wake-Up Call
Ricardo Gomes, President of the LGBT Chamber of Commerce and Tourism of Brazil, frames the significance of both documents clearly.
“The Manifesto and the February Letter aim to be a landmark so that LGBT+ tourism in Brazil can be structured based on successful cases and market analysis. The manifesto is meant to be a wake-up call, a demand for a clear stance from industry players on this tourism niche. The Letter will propose clear actions in the short, medium, and long term so that together we can make Brazilian LGBT+ tourism take its rightful place in Brazil and in the world.” — Ricardo Gomes, President of the LGBT Chamber of Commerce and Tourism of Brazil
To close the event, organizers presented a calendar of LGBT+ tourism B2B events in Brazil and abroad, highlighting opportunities for networking, professional development, and new business generation.
