The 15th edition of Dazum Banho took place this Sunday (Feb. 23) on Jurerê Internacional beach in Florianópolis, Brazil, in front of the Jurerê Beach Village hotel. Organized by Grupo Habitasul, the cleanup drive brought together more than 100 people throughout the morning — volunteers, company staff, public officials, beachgoers, and tourists.

Participants collected hundreds of items from the sand and surrounding vegetation: plastics, paper, metals, cigarette butts, glass, organic waste, and even large objects such as a plastic table, a bicycle wheel, and a beach umbrella. To ensure full inclusion, the event offered live interpretation in Spanish for foreign visitors.

Marine wildlife at risk

Salete Pereira, Sustainability Coordinator at Grupo Habitasul, explained the project’s core mission: raising public awareness about solid waste left on beaches and its direct impact on marine wildlife.

Many animals end up dying because they confuse food with waste floating in the water. This is an urgent issue. Salete Pereira, Sustainability Coordinator, Grupo Habitasul

José Mateus, CEO of Grupo Habitasul, reinforced that sustainability is embedded in the company’s culture, not just its messaging.

Because we develop projects and businesses in close relationship with the sea, it is our obligation to educate and share knowledge — through partners as well — with the widest audience possible, so that we can preserve this precious resource as intact as possible. José Mateus, CEO, Grupo Habitasul

Citizenship tourism

Rodrigo Sabatini, president of the Instituto Lixo Zero do Brasil (Zero Waste Brazil Institute), praised the initiative as a model for a new kind of tourism.

This action by Habitasul represents something very modern: the construction of a new type of tourism — citizenship tourism. It’s where people have the opportunity to develop a new awareness, responsibility, and active participation. A place where they can truly exercise their citizenship and make a difference. Rodrigo Sabatini, president, Instituto Lixo Zero do Brasil

The State Secretariat for Environment and Green Economy participated through the Jogue Limpo (Keep It Clean) Program. Secretary Cleiton Fossa highlighted the economic dimension of environmental preservation.

Our program aims to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the environment — and the impact of that, not just on nature, but on the economy. After all, the beach is not just beauty; it’s also tourism, income, jobs, and fishing — one of Santa Catarina’s main economic drivers. Cleiton Fossa, Secretary of State for Environment and Green Economy

Zero Waste certification

The 15th edition was part of the Floripa Zero Waste Meeting 2026, held over the weekend at Jurerê Beach Village — one of the first large hotels in Brazil to receive Zero Waste Certification.

The event also had the support of Eco Vantagens, Projeto Tamar, and R3 Animal. Grupo Habitasul’s Water and Sewage System has held administrative certification since 2024, while two other operations — Jurerê OPEN and IL Campanario hotel — are pursuing certification at the second level, known as “Towards Zero Waste.”
