Gravatá opens Christmas 2025 on Saturday (29), with Tardes no Polo, a Christmas parade and Santa’s House at the Tourist Information Center.
Squares, bridges, streets and shop façades already illuminated compose the festive scenery of Gravatá, in Pernambuco’s Agreste region.
Considered one of the main Christmas destinations in Brazil’s Northeast, the city is ready to welcome visitors from Saturday, November 29.
On that date, the season of parades, shows and themed performances begins, with a special edition of the Tardes no Polo project.
This monthly tourism-promotion initiative is maintained by the City of Gravatá through the Department of Tourism, Culture, Sports and Leisure (Secturcel).
The event turns Rua Duarte Coelho, the city’s traditional gateway, into a colorful corridor filled with lights, ornaments and Christmas characters.
Activities run from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Polo Moveleiro.
Three small stages will host local music acts.
Along the street, stalls will feature artisans and local businesses showcasing gastronomic products, décor items and gift suggestions.
The special December edition is supported by O Boticário, Colégio Céu Azul, JS Ambiental, Tesouros da Serra, Locallink, Construtora Sollar, Allok and Reforça Kids.
“Christmas closes a year of growth, marked by achievements not only in tourism and Gravatá’s economy, but also in urban development and in our people’s quality of life.
We delivered important projects this year and will keep this intense pace.
We have already begun the redevelopment of Alto do Cruzeiro and, in January, we will launch the new annual events calendar so that the tourism trade and visitors can plan their trips”
, highlights Gravatá’s mayor, Joselito Gomes.
The most anticipated moment of the afternoon is the mini Christmas parade.
The main Christmas characters will be portrayed by children, youth and adults from 12 local dance groups.
The audience is invited to immerse themselves in the magical, festive and welcoming atmosphere that marks the year-end celebrations.
In 2025, the Christmas season runs until December 28 and is expected to boost the city’s hospitality sector and retail trade.
Around 300,000 people are expected to visit Gravatá during the period.
The estimated financial impact is R$ 100 million.
The Christmas program is supported by O Boticário, Casa Mirandas, EIP Serviços de Iluminação, Locallink and Fabrik Design.
“Gravatá’s Christmas is undoubtedly one of the most important periods for our tourism.
It creates a great opportunity for business generation among local tourism entrepreneurs and attracts visitors from Recife, as well as from neighboring states such as Alagoas, Rio Grande do Norte and Paraíba.
Many direct and indirect jobs are created, which is essential for local economic growth”
, says Tourism Secretary Marllon Lima.
Santa’s House
Saturday also marks the start of activities at the Casa do Papai Noel, or Santa’s House.
This year, the attraction is located at the Tourist Information Center (CIT), on the local lane of BR 232, next to the Polo Moveleiro.
The building, inspired by Swiss architecture, reflects one of the city’s trademarks, which is known as the “Brazilian Switzerland”.
The venue has been fully decorated and illuminated to welcome visitors with the warmth and charm of Christmas celebrations.
From 6 p.m. onward, Santa Claus and his team of elves will be on-site to officially light the Gravatá 2025 Christmas decorations.
Throughout the month, staff from the CIT will be present at Santa’s House to answer questions about the Christmas program, main attractions and tourist services.
Santa’s House is a project that relies on key support from Casa Mirandas, Starlux and AM Distribuidora.
