Gravatá reopened its Alto do Cruzeiro with an amphitheater, LED lights, playground, and leisure areas, revitalizing a landmark for residents and tourists.
The City Hall of Gravatá, in Pernambuco’s Agreste region, inaugurated the fully renovated Alto do Cruzeiro on Tuesday (17). The new version includes an amphitheater, playground, outdoor gym, benches, handrails, LED lighting, parking areas, and a restored masonry cross — a beloved city symbol.
With an investment of around R$ 1 million, the project was carried out by the Municipal Department of Public Works with funds from a parliamentary amendment by federal deputy Waldemar Oliveira, allocated to the Department of Tourism, Culture, Sports, and Leisure (Secturcel).
A renewed landmark for tourism
Known for its stunning panoramic views and sunsets, Alto do Cruzeiro remains one of Gravatá’s top attractions, drawing thousands during Easter and São João festivities. The renovation not only enhances the site’s appeal but also benefits local residents with new leisure and fitness spaces.
“The place is now more beautiful, organized, and inviting. It will attract more visitors and boost the local economy,” said Edvaldo Salgado, owner of Cruzeiro da Serra restaurant.
According to Tourism Director Marllon Lima, the “new Cruzeiro” reinforces the city’s commitment to developing tourism. “It’s a renewed space designed to welcome both residents and visitors. Gravatá is a major tourism hub, and we want everyone to have more reasons to come back,” he noted.
