On Brazil’s National Cheese Day, January 20, Grupo Vilarejo highlights Laticínios Vilarejo, producing artisanal cheeses in Conservatória, Rio de Janeiro.
Celebrated on January 20, National Cheese Day honors one of the most versatile foods in the kitchen. In Brazil, the date has gained momentum as consumers increasingly value artisanal cheeses, local production, and the idea of origin. Within this context, Grupo Vilarejo uses the occasion to spotlight a project that expresses the brand’s identity and enhances the visitor experience.
The focus is Laticínios Vilarejo, an initiative that links local production, quality gastronomy, and tourism. Based in Conservatória (RJ), it began in 1989 as an add-on to the lodging experience and has since become a strategic part of the group’s broader business ecosystem.
With its own milk production, the family property’s on-site plant transforms the raw material into artisanal cheeses and requeijão-style spreads. The process prioritizes quality, freshness, and identity, reinforcing the connection between origin and the final product.
A significant share supplies the Vilarejo hotels’ kitchens, adding value to the all-inclusive guest experience and bringing “from farm to table” to life. At the same time, products are also sold to the public for at-home consumption, reflecting the idea “From our farm to your home” and extending the brand into everyday routines.
Today, the dairy produces more than seven types of cheese. Two labels pay tribute to Conservatória—Seresteiro and Serra da Beleza—and there is also a special cheese made with artisanal cachaça from Cachaçaria Vilarejo.
Beyond cheese, the lineup includes items such as yogurts and dulce de leche. Products are available at nine Vilarejo stores, the group’s two hotels, and partner outlets including the Clube do Churrasco chain and Kiosque do Alemão.
“Beyond a food that’s always on our table, we also celebrate the work of producers. In our case, we celebrate a story built on tradition, innovation, and commitment to origin. Here at Vilarejo, cheese takes center stage and elevates the quality of the experience,” says João Mello, director of Vilarejo Hotels.
