For travelers who want Carnival without the big-city frenzy, Campos do Jordão is emerging as a strong choice for a pet-friendly Carnival. With mild mountain weather, preserved nature and a slower pace, Brazil’s highest city brings together stays, attractions and dining spots ready to welcome visitors traveling with their pets.

The vibe is calmer by design. You can catch lighter cultural programming or simply unplug and lean into the Serra da Mantiqueira scenery—without leaving your four-legged companion behind, thanks to services designed for shared experiences.

“Traveling with a pet means sharing important moments with a member of the family. Campos do Jordão understands the value of these bonds and offers experiences designed to be enjoyed together. Our city provides comfort, adaptation when needed, and conveniences so pets can truly enjoy the trip,” says Sidney Isidro, director of the Aproveite Campos do Jordão Consortium.

Pet-friendly places to stay

A highlight is the destination’s pet-friendly hotel scene. Surya-Pan Refúgio Hotel—described as Brazil’s most awarded pet-friendly lodging—offers a full nature-immersed experience for guests and dogs. The property features two pet-only pools (a shallow one for smaller dogs and a deeper one for swimmers), guided trails, a ball pit area and large lawns for running. At breakfast, dogs are treated to snacks too.

Another option is Hotel Boutique Quebra-Noz, located just 300 meters from Praça do Capivari. Set on a 9,000-square-meter green property beside a 30,000-square-meter permanent preservation area, it was twice voted Brazil’s best mountain hotel. Pets receive an elevated welcome with a bed, food and water bowls and fresh water, plus dedicated pet areas. They may also get a fruit cake served with the tutors’ picnic (service not included in the daily rate).

Hotel Toriba is also part of the city’s pet-friendly lineup, offering a welcome kit for pets and a stay that blends gastronomy, leisure areas and outdoor activities. The hotel’s 18 kilometers of trails and its gardens create inviting settings for either active walks or slower, scenic strolls.

Outdoor outings with your pet

Campos do Jordão also delivers open-air attractions that match the holiday’s rest-and-recharge mood. Parque Bambuí offers trails, lakes and wide green spaces, plus a steam-train ride to Casa Bambuí. Amantikir, in turn, invites unhurried walks through gardens inspired by different cultures—ideal for photos and a quieter itinerary.

For more variety, Parque Tarundu features over 25 attractions across half a million square meters of preserved nature, and pets are welcome to play and run on the lawns. In the main tourist hub, Parque Capivari keeps the classics— including the cable car with pets allowed inside the cabins, delivering panoramic views of the Serra da Mantiqueira.

Dining that welcomes dogs too

Food is part of the trip—and local venues are leaning into the pet-friendly approach. At Dona Chica na Horta, pets have their own menu called “Cãodárpio,” featuring natural, fresh dishes prepared to order.

Inspired by Texas tradition and an Old West aesthetic, ArtBBQ lets pets roam freely throughout the restaurant. The venue also operates as an inn and allows pets to join guests at breakfast. In the city center, Vila Chã, a Portuguese restaurant, also welcomes pets and offers a dedicated space for them.

The takeaway is straightforward: a slower Carnival for humans, genuine hospitality for pets and a mountain escape that feels different—often confirmed on the drive home, when even your pet seems happier after the trip.
