Rio de Janeiro is named one of the 25 best destinations in the world for 2026 by National Geographic’s Best of The World list.
Rio de Janeiro has been selected as one of the 25 best destinations in the world to visit in 2026. The recognition appears in National Geographic’s Best of The World 2026 list, one of the most respected rankings in global tourism. The selection is created by the organization’s global community of explorers, photographers and editors.
According to Brazil’s Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, the distinction reinforces the country’s position as a global tourism power. He highlights that the inclusion of Rio reflects efforts to strengthen destinations, expand air connectivity and invest in tourism infrastructure.
The guide describes the city as a South American megacity. It highlights iconic attractions such as Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain and Rio’s beaches. It also emphasizes the growth of cultural tourism, marked by the reopening of institutions such as the National Museum and the National Museum of Fine Arts.
The publication also notes that Rio is emerging as a gastronomic destination, showcasing its cultural richness and creative energy.
