Sonho de Natal 2025: Minas’ biggest Christmas event

Barbacena hosts Sonho de Natal 2025 – The Christmas of Love, with 480,000 lights, 950 figures and over 200 hours of free shows.

The city in the Campo das Vertentes region is already celebrating Christmas with a new edition of Sonho de Natal.

The event has become a reference in Minas Gerais and attracts visitors from several regions of Brazil.

This year, the celebration presents the theme The Christmas of Love, highlighting faith, hope, peace and love as core values.

The official kick-off took place on Friday, 14 November, with the lighting ceremony that opened the festive season in the city.

The biggest Christmas event in Minas Gerais

Organised by the City Hall of Barbacena and CDL – Barbacena, Sonho de Natal 2025 recovers its traditional grandeur.

This edition features more than 480,000 light points spread across squares, streets and historic buildings in the city.

The decoration includes light waterfalls, illuminated tunnels, trees up to 17 metres high and the classic Santa Claus in the Municipal Garden.

In total, there are 950 illuminated figures throughout Barbacena, transforming each corner into a magical Christmas setting.

Stars, snowflakes, hearts, globes and Christmas characters complete the spectacle and reinforce the festive atmosphere.

Warm white, cool white, blue and red lights create a welcoming and emotional atmosphere across the main areas.

This year’s major novelty is the Expresso do Noel, which offers an unprecedented experience for visitors to meet and take pictures with Santa Claus.

The Christmas of Love: elegance and tradition in the lights

The Secretary of Culture and Tourism, Alexandre Braga, highlights the new visual approach adopted in this edition.

“Nesta edição, optamos por trabalhar com uma paleta cromática que resgata a elegância e a sofisticação do Natal tradicional. As luzes branco frio, branco quente, azul e vermelho foram cuidadosamente escolhidas, sendo o vermelho um símbolo forte do amor, que é o tema central deste ano. O que entregamos à população de Barbacena e aos visitantes é algo verdadeiramente especial, pensado com carinho para encantar e emocionar. É a celebração do Natal em sua máxima beleza e, mais uma vez, o Sonho de Natal de Barbacena reafirma seu lugar como um evento que marca época e cria memórias inesquecíveis”.

According to the secretary, the concept is more classical and refined, different from previous editions marked by intense colours.

Each light and each illuminated figure was planned to reinforce the concept of The Christmas of Love throughout the city.

A city of lights: landmarks and new attractions

The project brings together more than 250 decorative and artistic structures installed in key locations in Barbacena.

Rosário Square receives a dazzling light tunnel, inviting residents and tourists to moments of contemplation and leisure.

XV de Novembro Street, the Municipal Garden and Praça do Globo are fully integrated into the Christmas route.

The City Council building and the iconic Arcos do Pontilhão are also highlighted with special lighting, linking history and magic.

The Casa do Papai Noel (Santa’s House) will be inaugurated on 8 December in a new location, Praça do Globo, expanding the visitor experience.

Cultural and tourism development for Barbacena

Sonho de Natal has become an important driver for tourism and cultural development in Barbacena.

For the Secretary of Culture and Tourism, the initiative goes beyond a visual spectacle and strengthens local identity.

“O Sonho de Natal Barbacena já se consolidou como uma referência no estado. Este ano, com o tema ‘O Natal do Amor’, estamos promovendo não só o espírito natalino, mas também a união entre as pessoas e o fortalecimento da nossa cultura. Cada luz, cada figura iluminada tem o objetivo de levar emoção e alegria a cada barbacenense e aos visitantes que nos prestigiam”, disse Alexandre Braga.

The Director of Tourism and Events, Giovane Tavares, also underlines the importance of the event for the city’s image.

“Estamos fazendo história com o Sonho de Natal, mostrando que Barbacena não é apenas uma cidade acolhedora, mas também um centro de cultura e arte. Nosso trabalho reflete um compromisso com os moradores e com os turistas, oferecendo uma experiência inesquecível para todas as idades e tornando o Natal aqui uma data ainda mais especial”, ressalta.

Diverse and inclusive cultural programme

Beyond lights and decoration, Sonho de Natal Barbacena 2025 offers a wide cultural and artistic programme, entirely free of charge.

More than 200 hours of performances and interactive activities are planned for audiences of all ages.

Recurring shows such as “A Luz do Natal” and “Christmas Show”, both by Grupo Ligia Aydar, animate the Emoção and Encanto stages.

Located in the Municipal Garden, these stages become the heart of the event’s activities throughout the festive period.

The programme values local talent, with choirs such as Coral do Ivert and Vox Aprendiz, as well as bands and dance groups.

Theatre productions complete the schedule, combining tradition and contemporary language to celebrate the Christmas spirit.

The calendar also includes the emotional Arrival of Santa Claus and two Christmas Parades, which fill the streets with colour and music.

The special Sessão Atípica do Amor NeuroVida has been carefully designed to promote accessibility and inclusion.

The initiative seeks to ensure that everyone can experience the magic of Christmas, regardless of physical or intellectual condition.
