Staycation in Rio is rising this summer, and Lagune Barra Hotel highlights comfort, dining, a new rooftop, and leisure close to home.
Rio’s summer, shaped by school holidays and a busier city, is reinforcing a major urban travel movement: staycation. The idea—checking into a hotel in your own city or nearby—has gained momentum with hybrid work, a stronger focus on well-being, and the desire for a break that feels easy and practical.
As a result, hotels outside the best-known tourist hubs are drawing not only visitors from other states, but also Rio residents looking to reset their routine without long drives or peak-season crowds.
In Barra Olímpica, Lagune Barra Hotel says it is responding to this shift with an experience that combines comfortable rooms, dining, and leisure areas. The hotel targets a broad audience, from travelers to locals planning short, strategic escapes during the city’s busiest time of year.
“Today’s guest values comfort, space, and experiences that deliver a real break from routine. Staycation is exactly that alternative: rest, enjoy leisure and dining, with the convenience of staying close to home,” says Fernando Amorim, general manager of Lagune Barra Hotel.
The industry expects the trend to remain strong throughout 2026. According to a study by international consultancy Future Market Insights (FMI), the global staycation market is projected to more than double by 2035, driven by near-home experiences and convenience.
Key drivers include lower costs and simpler logistics, the flexibility of hybrid work, and interest in options with reduced environmental impact, aligned with more conscious consumption.
A new rooftop designed for summer breaks
As part of this positioning, Lagune Barra Hotel has launched a new rooftop focused on leisure and well-being during summer. The area features abundant greenery, shaded zones, beach-inspired furniture, and new lounges designed for social moments.
The pool area has also been visually updated with Skia chairs by MAC and a tropical setting with palm trees and bromeliads. Among the season’s offerings is a floating breakfast served in the pool, with a curated basket and private access from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., before official opening hours. The experience is optional and charged separately from the daily rate.
Beach club partnership and a seasonal deal
To extend the summer experience, the hotel has partnered with Reserva Onze Beach Club, located around 12 minutes away at Praia da Reserva. Guests receive benefits such as access to the venue’s structure—including chairs, umbrellas, and lounges, subject to availability—plus a complimentary welcome drink.
To further encourage staycation stays, Lagune launched a promotion valid through January 31. By booking directly on the official website and using the code VERAO10, guests get 10% off accommodation, Reserva Onze Beach Club, and the hotel’s restaurants.
