United Airlines has taken a significant step toward redefining inflight connectivity by launching its first transatlantic flight featuring Starlink Wi-Fi on a widebody aircraft.
A milestone flight
The United Flight 14, traveling from Newark/New York to London, marks the airline’s first commercial widebody service equipped with Starlink. The flight operates on a Boeing 777-200.
This rollout is part of a broader plan, with nearly 60 widebody aircraft expected to receive the system this year and full fleet integration targeted by next summer in the Northern Hemisphere.
Global connectivity at scale
Powered by low Earth orbit satellites, Starlink enables fast and reliable internet even over oceans and remote regions previously unreachable by traditional networks.
As the largest airline operating across both the Atlantic and Pacific, United is leveraging this technology to provide seamless connectivity worldwide. The service is free for United MileagePlus members.
This technology has the potential to transform how we think about the inflight experience
The statement comes from David Kinzelman, United’s Chief Customer Officer.
Rapid fleet expansion
Since its introduction, more than 18.6 million passengers have flown on Starlink-equipped aircraft across over 311,000 flights, connecting nearly 9.9 million devices.
More than 400 aircraft are already equipped, with plans to reach around 1,000 planes by the end of the year.
Ankit Gupta, Vice President of Digital Technology, highlighted the efficiency of the rollout and collaboration with Starlink.
Enhanced onboard experience
United currently offers more than 167,000 seatback screens across nearly 900 aircraft and plans to expand this significantly with new deliveries and retrofits.
Starlink integration enhances both personal devices and seatback entertainment systems, enabling a more connected and personalized journey.
- Real-time gaming during flights
- Online shopping and planning
- Seamless work collaboration
- Multi-device connectivity
Passengers are notified before departure if Starlink is available onboard.
