After posting R$807 million in 2025, Vila Galé is ramping up in Brazil with R$800 million earmarked for six new hotels by 2028.
Portuguese hospitality group Vila Galé — one of Brazil’s biggest resort operators — closed 2025 with R$ 807 million in revenue in the country, a 20% year-over-year increase. The results reflect the performance of its 13 operating properties across Brazil.
Brazil is increasingly central to the group’s footprint, which totals 52 hotels: 34 in Portugal, one in Spain, four in Cuba, and 13 in Brazil. According to Dr. Jorge Rebelo de Almeida, Vila Galé’s founder and president, if the Brazilian real were not so devalued, revenue generated in Brazil could even surpass Portugal and Spain, which finished last year with €193.5 million (around R$ 1.2 billion at the current exchange rate).
2025 openings
In 2025, Vila Galé launched two properties under its Collection brand, which focuses on boutique-style hotels with more personalized service. In May, Vila Galé Collection Ouro Preto opened as the company’s first move into the state of Minas Gerais.
Vila Galé Collection Ouro Preto was created through the restoration of an 18th-century historic building that once housed the First Cavalry Regiment Headquarters of Minas Gerais, where Tiradentes served. The hotel has 311 rooms, with part of the inventory located in newly built blocks, and highlights a nature-forward setting near the historic town of Ouro Preto.
On site, guests find five pools (including a heated one), a spa, the Nep kids club, a children’s kart track, a multi-sport court, an equestrian facility, three restaurants, a bar, and additional leisure options.
In late October, the group opened its first hotel in Belém, Pará — and its first in Northern Brazil: Vila Galé Collection Amazônia. The project restored three century-old warehouses on the Guajará Bay waterfront, turning them into a heritage-focused hotel that quickly became a coveted stay for visitors and locals alike.
With 217 rooms, including two suites, Vila Galé Collection Amazônia sits in Porto Futuro II, near major attractions such as Estação das Docas and the Ver-o-Peso Market. Amenities include an outdoor pool overlooking the bay, a heated indoor pool, a restaurant, and a spa, among other features.
“We’re addicted to restoring historic heritage — and that makes a real difference for tourism. The world doesn’t need more identical hotels; we need hotels that tell Brazil’s story, through its architecture and its gastronomy.”
R$800M plan: six hotels by 2028
Expansion continues: Vila Galé plans to invest R$ 800 million in Brazil and open six new hotels by mid-2028. The pipeline includes projects in Coruripe (Alagoas), São Luís (Maranhão), Brumadinho (Minas Gerais), and Florianópolis (Santa Catarina).
In São Luís, two Collection hotels are scheduled for mid-2027: Vila Galé Collection São Luís and Vila Galé Collection Maranhão. They will occupy the former buildings of the Public Defender’s Office and Casa do Maranhão, both under restoration. The investment is estimated at R$ 180 million, with one hotel themed around opera and music and the other centered on poetry.
On a similar timeline, Coruripe — about 80 km from Maceió — is set to receive two developments totaling R$ 220 million in investment. One of them will carry the Nep Kids brand and will be fully geared toward families traveling with children.
The group’s second property in Minas Gerais is expected by mid-2028 in Brumadinho. Built from the ground up, the hotel will span roughly 107,000 m² and involve R$ 200 million in investment. Its proximity to Inhotim, widely recognized as the world’s largest open-air museum, is positioned as a key advantage.
Also in 2028, Vila Galé plans to open its first hotel in Santa Catarina: a new-build property in Florianópolis, located at Sapiens Parque. The hotel will offer 270 rooms and is backed by R$ 200 million in investment.
