Between a three-hour bus ride and the dream of making art, Dias e Dias follows São Paulo’s periphery youth and targets a late-2026 release.
Directed by the duo 2Vilão—Mary Abrantes and Peri—the mid-length film centers on Caíque, a young photographer torn between job stability and a fuller life in creation. As a result, the city becomes both route and drama: Downtown versus the South Zone, urgency versus observation.
Mobility, time, and unequal distance
At the core of the story, urban mobility reveals how inequality shapes everyday choices. In major cities, commuting time dictates access, opportunities, and even whether a dream can survive. That’s why the film treats the commute as a visual language—repetition, waiting, and persistence.
Shot across São Paulo’s South Zone periphery and its city center, the film watches life at the margins without turning away. While Caíque crosses the city, he searches for meaning in ordinary scenes. In the process, “one day at a time” becomes a question about the future.
Cast and a lived perspective on screen
The main cast includes Bias, Larissa Diaz, Nando Bárá, Elias Cardoso, and Felipe Paraguassu. Bias, who plays the lead, says the character felt deeply personal. He points to long commutes as a concrete barrier for young people trying to study and build a career.
“In my current reality, it takes me three hours to get to where I study theater, which has always been my dream.”
He also highlights what he found behind the scenes: a crew with strong representation of Black, LGBTQIA+, and peripheral professionals. This strengthens the film’s commitment to aligning story and production, keeping aesthetics and experience connected.
Behind the scenes: 75% from the periphery
With institutional support from Instituto Criar—an NGO founded in 2003—the project brings together 16 talents trained by the organization, including the directors, screenwriter Guilherme Candido, and executive producer Ana Inez Eurico. In addition, 75% of the crew comes from the periphery, pointing toward a more diverse and democratic audiovisual field.
Abrantes and Peri say Dias e Dias was born from watching time itself: the time of those who work, wait, and keep hoping. They describe themselves as Instituto Criar alumni and cite the influence of collectives from Ermelino Matarazzo, in São Paulo’s East Zone, shaped by public policy and the Institute’s actions. In other words, the film mirrors a reality they also lived.
“Our focus is the personal longing of those who create on the margins. Not to win, but to keep going.”
Brazilian cinema strength and release window
Produced by Fílmica, the film is sponsored by Petrogal Brasil (JV Galp | Sinopec). Made through Brazil’s Rouanet Law, Dias e Dias is expected to be released in the last quarter of 2026. Within that scope, it highlights how cinema in Brazil can rise from territories often denied resources yet central to new storytelling.
