Young samba drummers led by Pretinho da Serrinha perform Brazil’s national anthem at Rio Open 2026 final, blending carioca beats with top tennis.
Youth Battery Sets Emotional Tone
A group of children and young drummers from various samba schools will play the national anthem at the Rio Open 2026 final. Pretinho da Serrinha conducts, with Miguelzinho do Cavaco joining in.
Rehearsal happened Monday (26th) at Cidade do Samba. It promises high emotion before the post-Carnival Sunday showdown on February 22 at Jockey Club Brasileiro.
Conducting the national anthem at the Rio Open final is an immense honor. It’s an international tennis event showcasing Rio to the world.
Says Pretinho da Serrinha. He emphasizes bridging 21 young talents with the event, linking culture, sports and growth opportunities.
Miguelzinho do Cavaco adds: “It’s sport, culture, and Brazil united”. The drum format boosts the collective thrill ahead of the decisive match.
Rio Open’s Music Legacy
The Rio Open, South America’s top tennis tournament, pairs Brazilian music with the action. Past anthem stars include Iza, Seu Jorge, and Fernanda Abreu.
Now samba takes center court. General director Marcia Casz says: “Pretinho leading young drummers in the final will celebrate this Carnival tie-in”.
The event pumps R$ 170 million into the economy and creates 5,000 jobs. Broadcast to 140 countries on SporTV.
