Galeria de Arte André opens Cores que curam (Colors That Heal) on Saturday, March 14 — the first solo exhibition by Ana Augusta Silveira at the gallery. Curated by Octavio Guastini with a critical essay by Mario Gioia, the show brings together more than 20 new paintings produced between 2025 and 2026.
An archaeology of the image
Critic Mario Gioia describes Ana Augusta’s practice as a kind of archaeology of the image. “With intense chromaticism and ease working at large scales, Ana Augusta incorporates new plastic strategies into her body of work in this exhibition — including the use of white as a background and a broader palette featuring turquoise green and pink,” he writes.
Seeing as experience, looking as presence, contemplating as a possibility for silence and inner reorganization.
The artist draws on psychoanalysis as one of her conceptual anchors. “The canvases do not represent the external world, nor do they propose closed meanings,” she explains. For Silveira, “color manifests itself as vibration, as state, as energy in motion.”
Process as poetics
In her work, process holds a central place. Once a canvas reaches an apparent state of completion, it is the journey — built from layering, erasure, and repetition — that proves essential. This succession of plastic experiences resonates with both the spiritual and with contemporary visual culture. By choosing painting — one of art history’s most traditional languages — as her vehicle, Ana Augusta affirms its continued relevance. In her studio in the northern zone of São Paulo, she maintains a continuous working process driven more by presence than by literal explanation.
About Ana Augusta Silveira
Born in São Paulo in 1977, the artist currently lives in Ribeirão Preto. Self-taught, she has participated in exhibitions in Europe and São Paulo and is a member of the Ward-Nasse Gallery in New York. Her work stands out for its ongoing research in abstraction and its remarkable chromatic intensity.
