Inspired by Borges, the play by Pequena Companhia de Teatro turns a story of guilt and truth into a narrative labyrinth at CCBB São Paulo.What defines the truth of a story? That question drives “Ensaio sobre a memória,” opening from March 26 to April 6 at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil São Paulo. Loosely based on The Other Death by Jorge Luis Borges, the play follows a man haunted by guilt after allegedly betraying his comrades under a military dictatorship.Written and directed by Marcelo Flecha, the staging unfolds as an investigation led by a writer and his assistant, who reconstruct conflicting versions of the same event — revealing how imagination, politics, and personal interest shape the narratives we accept as truth.
Layers of guilt and time
Actors Cláudio Marconcine, Dênia Correia, Lauande Aires, and Katia Lopes shift roles and perspectives throughout the show, creating a fluid and fragmented theatrical experience.
