With 34 shows and extra sessions added to meet demand, Thalita Rebouças’s comedy musical became a multigenerational hit in Copacabana.
A live phenomenon in the age of screens
At a time when attention spans grow shorter and screens dominate daily life, a live performance broke through in the heart of Copacabana. The Roxy theater closed the curtain on the first season of Fala Sério, Mãe! – Elas só mudam de endereço (Seriously, Mom! – They Just Move to a New Address) on Sunday, March 29, wrapping a run that redefined what a night — or a Sunday matinée — at the theater can mean.
The numbers tell the story: 34 performances, an average of 500 audience members per show, and a total of around 20,000 people over three months. Demand ran so high that extra sessions had to be scheduled throughout the season.
Four generations sharing the same laugh
Since opening night on January 8, the show turned the Roxy into something increasingly rare: a space where up to four generations sat side by side. Children, teenagers, parents, grandparents and great-grandparents filled the seats together, reacting as one, rediscovering the collective joy of live storytelling.
The connection was immediate. By exploring, with humor and warmth, the bond between mothers and children who “don’t really change — they just get a new zip code,” the production built an emotional bridge that crossed age groups and backgrounds. “I saw myself in so many scenes, both as a daughter and as a mother,” said audience member Anna Cruz, who attended with her 14-year-old daughter.
“This was definitely the first theater experience for a lot of people. And that’s priceless.” — Thalita Rebouças
Cast, creative team and production
Nearly 30 performers bring a 80-minute show to life, blending original songs with well-known hits. Actress and singer Cella Bártholo, who plays Malu, captures the spirit of the run: “It was an incredibly emotional season. The show makes people laugh and cry at the same time. And nothing is more rewarding than seeing children with shining eyes at the end.”
General Direction by Abel Gomes, Production Direction by Sheila Roza. The script, written by Thalita Rebouças and Gustavo Reiz, is brought to life by Priscilla Mota (Artistic Direction), Tauã Delmiro (Theater Direction), Rodrigo Negri (Movement Direction) and Tony Lucchesi (Musical Direction and arrangements). Set design by Tuca Mariana, costumes by Cláudia Kopke, lighting by Paulo Cesar Medeiros, makeup by Beto Carramanhos and digital/audiovisual scenography by Igor Corrêa. Produced by SRCOM and Accioly Entretenimento.
A star-studded audience
The show drew some of Brazil’s most recognizable faces throughout its run, including Carolina Dieckmann, Ingrid Guimarães, Irene Ravache, Ana Paula Araújo, Flávia Alessandra, Otaviano Costa, Larissa Manoela, Lázaro Ramos, Taís Araújo, Evelyn Castro, Rafael Chalub, Nando Cunha, Susana Pires, Paulo Ricardo, Narcisa Tamborindeguy, Marcos Caruso, Paulo Betti, Flávia Reis, Matheus Solano, Angélica, Regina Casé, Louise Cardoso and Ernesto Piccolo, among others.
Second season on the way
More than a musical, Fala Sério, Mãe! introduced a new kind of cultural experience at the Roxy — one that combines theater, food, and community. The second season is set for July and August 2026, and reservations have already begun.
