All essays draw from Brazilian socionomy — the study of the laws governing social relations — to propose a psychodrama that is grounded, self-aware, and accountable to its time and place.
An ethics of resistance
More than techniques, Psicodramas Insurgentes offers what its organizers describe as tools for an ethics of resistance. The proposal is direct: transform psychic suffering into collective action, without sacrificing clinical rigor.
The book is aimed at therapists and students who understand that the therapy room is never isolated from the street. It is also a vital contribution for those who wish to unite individual care and social justice — reaffirming the transformative potential of psychodrama on Latin American soil.

A new Brazilian anthology connects psychodramatic practice to pressing political urgencies, offering tools for resistance and social justice.
When the stage meets the street
What happens when insurgent psychodrama moves beyond clinical method and becomes a political tool? That is precisely the shift that Psicodramas Insurgentes — organized by Devanir Merengué and Yan Leite Chaparro and published by Editora Ágora — proposes with clarity and urgency.
Bringing together combative psychodramatists from across Brazil, the anthology confronts a central question: what is the role of mental health promotion in times of rising authoritarianism? The answer arrives not in abstractions, but in concrete, politically situated essays committed to life.
Topics traditional clinics tend to avoid
The book refuses to repeat conventional formulas. Instead, it tackles themes that mainstream psychodrama often sidesteps:
