Chinese and Brazilian musicians shared the stage at Teatro Poupex Cultural in a landmark concert that officially opened the Brazil–China Cultural Year 2026.
On Tuesday evening (April 7), the Camerata of the China National Symphony Orchestra (CNSO) performed alongside the Symphony Orchestra of the Teatro Nacional Claudio Santoro in Brasília. The house was sold out. The concert marked the official launch of the Brazil–China Cultural Year, a joint initiative by both governments to strengthen cultural and institutional ties.
Two Countries, One Stage
The performance was split into two parts. The first was conducted by Chinese maestrina Jiang Huan; the second by Brazilian conductor Cláudio Cohen. Violinist Yao Liang stood out among the CNSO Camerata musicians throughout the night.
The program blended the musical traditions of both countries. Brazilian classics such as “Aquarela do Brasil” and “Trenzinho Caipira” were performed alongside beloved Chinese pieces including “Dance of the Golden Snake” and “Butterfly Lovers.” The combination moved the audience and underscored music’s power as a universal language.
High-Profile Attendance
The event drew authorities, diplomats, and military figures. Among those present were Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Zhu Qingqiao; deputy executive secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Cassius da Rosa; and Ambassador Laudemar Aguiar of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Senator Jaques Wagner, Supreme Court of Justice President Herman Benjamin, and Superior Military Court minister General Anísio de Oliveira Jr. also attended. Ibrachina was represented by president Thomas Law and director Ana Ou Law.
