Brazilian singer-songwriter Chico Chico releases his first book — a blend of poetry, short fiction, and prose written in silence over the years.

Pequenos Sigilos (“Small Secrets”), the debut book by Brazilian artist Chico Chico, hit bookstores this April through Ação Editora. The collection brings together short stories, dream journals in poetic prose, reflections, reveries, and fragments the author preserved over time — texts quietly written away from the spotlight.

The book’s origin has a clear starting point. A poem Chico Chico posted on Instagram titled “Poema pra mãe” (“Poem for My Mother”) caught the publisher’s attention for its density and emotional intensity. When they reached out, their hunch proved right: there were many more texts waiting, and not only poems.

A writing that isn’t explained — it’s lived

The texts in Pequenos Sigilos move through themes of death, family, affection, love, and silence. Together, the literary miscellany reveals how Chico Chico shapes the world from within — with the same attentive ear that has defined his musical work.

For Ação Editora, publishing the book is a commitment to works that expand Brazilian cultural sensibility. “It’s like following, through the paths of life, the fingerprints of new facets of a creative soul in full motion,” the publisher notes.

Geraldinho Carneiro opens with authority

The preface is written by poet Geraldinho Carneiro, a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters (ABL). He places Chico Chico within the landscape of contemporary Brazilian poetry, which, in his view, is living through a “healthy crisis of hegemony.” In this plural environment, Chico Chico’s writing moves naturally between the lyrical and the narrative, between song and prose.

There are many faces to this poet, and that may be one of his greatest qualities. We hope Chico Chico continues this way — searching for the discoveries of his own subjectivity, but also allowing the music of his many voices to sound. — Geraldinho Carneiro

Carneiro highlights verses that crystallize the book’s poetics: “The value lies in the fall / and poetry is a leap.” Elsewhere, an image unfolds with almost dreamlike freedom: “The Moon is hungry and wants to eat.” These are glimpses of what awaits readers across the book’s 96 pages.
