Letra Selvagem Bookstore opens inside a bus terminal in Taubaté on April 15, bringing literature to the busiest urban hub in Vale do Paraíba.
There is something quietly radical about the address: Livraria Letra Selvagem, Shop 11, Taubaté Bus Terminal. Between passengers arriving and departing, amid luggage and uncertain destinations, a bookstore has chosen to set up shop — not by chance, but by conviction.
The official opening takes place on April 15, 2026, a Wednesday, from 6 PM to 8 PM, with free admission and a full cultural program. The store is already open daily, from 8 AM to 9 PM, welcoming travelers and locals alike.
First bookstore of its kind in Vale do Paraíba
The project is led by Editora Letra Selvagem, a local publishing house turning the terminal into a permanent cultural hub. It is the first bookstore of this model in the entire Vale do Paraíba region. What makes it remarkable is not just the unusual address, but the underlying mission: making books available in one of the most diverse and high-traffic public spaces in everyday urban life.
The initiative builds on what the publisher already started with the FLIART — Taubaté Bus Terminal Book and Friendship Fair, a literary event that brought culture to the terminal for a few days at a time. The bookstore turns that fleeting gesture into something permanent.
An opening night with local flavor
The launch event captures the same community spirit. It will feature an institutional presentation about the project and its partners, a book signing session for “O Que me Toca” by Regina Célia Pinheiro da Silva, published by Letra Selvagem, along with a cocktail reception and a live pocket-show by local singer-songwriter Marcelo Theo.
Partners and urban renewal
The bookstore has the backing of Tarobá Construções Ltda, the company managing the terminal and leading its ongoing renovation process. Catavento Distribuidora supplies the main book collection. The opening is part of a broader urban renewal effort that aims to make the terminal more comfortable, functional, and culturally vibrant.
Taubaté holds the symbolic title of Brazil’s capital of children’s literature and houses a major university hub. The new bookstore speaks directly to that cultural identity. Students, workers, and travelers passing through the city will now inevitably cross paths with books.
Opening a bookstore in a bus terminal is also proposing a different kind of journey. One that requires no ticket, no schedule, no final destination. A journey that begins right there, between one platform and another, and that can take you much further.
