At Olodum’s traditional balcony, piseiro and samba-reggae met to officially open Carnival 2026, in an action promoted by 99Food that celebrated Brazilian musical diversity.
The opening of Olodum’s Carnival 2026 began even before the beat hit the streets. At Olodum’s traditional balcony in Pelourinho, the encounter that set the tone for Friday, February 13, took place: João Gomes went up to receive the bloco alongside singers and masters Memeu and Gilmário, in a symbolic moment that officially marked the beginning of the parade.
The participation was provided by 99Food and brought together artists, percussion, and audience at one of the most emblematic postcards of the Historic Center. From the balcony, João Gomes greeted the band arriving for the procession and celebrated Olodum’s cultural strength, before going down to honor and parade with the bloco. With the piseiro king’s voice alongside Olodum’s beat, the songs drove the crowd wild.
African Masks open procession with ancestrality
With the theme “African Masks – Magic and Beauty”, Olodum took to the streets a spectacle of percussion, Afro dance, and costumes inspired by different masks from the African continent. The opening act paved the way with performances symbolizing ancestrality and hope, while the drums echoed through the Batatinha Circuit.
On the balcony, the meeting between Olodum’s samba-reggae and João Gomes’ piseiro symbolized the union between tradition and contemporaneity. A phenomenon of northeastern music, João brought his distinctive voice, charisma, and Brazilian essence to add to the rhythmic power of the Afro bloco, creating a moment of genuine connection with the audience.

99Food celebrates Brazilian music in national calendar
The action is part of 99Food’s national Carnival calendar, which has been promoting major musical encounters across the country. By providing this junction between Olodum and João Gomes, the brand reinforces its positioning as a supporter of Brazilian music, especially northeastern and Bahian culture, and as a facilitator of experiences that connect people and territories.
After the energy shared on the balcony, Olodum took to the streets of Pelourinho and headed towards the Osmar Circuit in Campo Grande, bringing the theme “African Masks – Magic and Beauty” to thousands of revelers.
At the top of the balcony, before the first step of the procession, it became clear: Carnival began there, with drums, piseiro, and the strength of an encounter that celebrated Brazilian music in its essence, provided by 99Food.
