At Central do Brasil station, MetrôRio hosts SOS Folia with ID wristbands and guidance to help prevent children from going missing during Carnival crowds.
MetrôRio will host SOS Folia – Missing Prevention on Friday and Saturday (Jan 23–24) at Central do Brasil/Centro station. The initiative is led by the Rio de Janeiro State Government through the Foundation for Childhood and Adolescence (FIA-RJ) and is part of the SOS Missing Children program’s prevention calendar as Carnival approaches and foot traffic rises in public spaces.
The activation runs from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on both days. Its main goal is to reduce the risk of children and teenagers going missing in high-traffic environments, while encouraging everyday identification habits and giving parents and guardians practical safety guidance for major events.
How SOS Folia works at MetrôRio
Teams will hand out identification wristbands where families can write the child’s name and a responsible adult’s phone number. It’s a straightforward measure designed to speed up reunification if a child gets separated—especially in crowded hubs such as transit stations, bus terminals, and event areas.
According to FIA-RJ, reports of missing children and adolescents tend to increase during this time of year, particularly in places with heavy circulation. That’s why preventive and educational actions become even more important during summer and the Carnival season.
“Prevention is always the best path. The ID wristband is simple, but extremely effective, helping avoid panic and enabling a quick response if a child gets lost.”
The statement comes from Luiz Henrique Oliveira, manager of the SOS Missing Children program, who stresses that small precautions matter most on days with intense movement. The guidance is to keep close watch during commutes and set clear meet-up rules with children, especially in packed spaces.
