JK and Jango’s deaths return to the spotlight in A Conspiração Condor, André Sturm’s political thriller, opening this Thursday, April 9.
Directed by André Sturm, the feature digs into the behind-the-scenes circumstances surrounding the deaths of Juscelino Kubitschek and João Goulart, which happened in the same year under suspicious conditions. The film opens in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Salvador, Teresina, Maceió, Goiânia, Natal, Manaus, Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Florianópolis, Santos, Ribeirão Preto, Petrópolis and Niterói.
Set in the 1970s during Brazil’s military regime, the story follows journalist Silvana, played by Mel Lisboa, as she begins to question the official versions of the two former presidents’ deaths. JK dies in a car accident, while Jango suffers a heart attack shortly after returning from Paris, even after undergoing several medical exams.
A Conspiração Condor follows Silvana’s inquiry
As the investigation moves forward, Silvana uncovers a web of hidden interests. With help from Argentine journalist Juan, played by Dan Stulbach, and fellow reporter Marcela, portrayed by Maria Manoella, she enters a dangerous search for answers.
Along the way, she meets Carlos Lacerda, played by Pedro Bial, and learns more about the failed attempt to build the Frente Ampla, a political movement that sought to unite leaders against the military regime.
André Sturm’s political thriller revisits the 1970s
Written by André Sturm and Victor Bonini, the film blends suspense, journalism and historical material. In doing so, it reflects on one of the most sensitive chapters in Brazil’s recent history.
Alongside Mel Lisboa, Dan Stulbach, Maria Manoella and Pedro Bial, the cast also includes Nilton Bicudo, Marat Descartes, Zé Carlos Machado, Carlos Meceni, Luciano Chirolli, Lavínia Pannunzio, Rosana Maris, Fernando Nitsch and Jerusa Franco. The film is produced by Liz Reis and Beatriz Reis of LEP Filmes.
