The 100th anniversary of Andrzej Wajda takes center stage at the 15th Olhar de Cinema – Curitiba International Film Festival, which presents a dedicated retrospective honoring one of the most influential filmmakers in Polish history.
Running from June 4 to 13, the festival reinforces its role as a key platform for cinema in Brazil by spotlighting a body of work that continues to resonate globally. The section “Andrzej Wajda: The Romantic (of Polish Cinema)” brings together six films that reflect his artistic depth and historical relevance.
A voice shaped by history
Wajda’s films are deeply intertwined with Poland’s political and social struggles. He passed away in 2016 and received an Honorary Academy Award in 2000, recognizing a career that spanned over six decades and helped define modern European cinema.
Festival director Antonio Gonçalves Jr emphasizes the urgency of revisiting Wajda’s work in today’s context.

Tickets range from R$8 to R$16, with additional free screenings at venues such as Teatro da Vila, CIC, and MON, reinforcing the festival’s commitment to accessibility.
The program also includes critical texts by Polish curator Agnieszka Drewno, adding depth and context to the retrospective.
