Nominated for the Oscar 2026, “The Voice of Hind Rajab” opens Jan 29 in Brazil, turning a Gaza emergency call into a real-time fight for survival.

“The Voice of Hind Rajab” reaches Brazilian theaters next Thursday, January 29, released locally by Synapse Distribution.

The nominees for the 2026 Academy Awards were announced this morning during a live event from Los Angeles. Representing Tunisia, the film competes for Best International Feature Film, alongside titles including Brazil’s “O Agente Secreto.”

A rescue on the line

Directed by Kaouther Ben Hania, the story unfolds during a night of terror in Gaza, when an emergency phone call becomes a desperate attempt to save Hind Rajab, a 6-year-old Palestinian girl trapped inside a car under crossfire.

The film follows Red Crescent volunteers as they try to coordinate a rescue amid relentless violence, keeping constant phone contact with the child.

Festival momentum

Before its awards push, the film made a strong festival run, winning the Silver Lion – the Grand Jury Prize – at the 2025 Venice Film Festival.

It also earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Language Film, strengthening its international profile ahead of the Oscars.

Synapse lands another nod

Synapse Distribution also handles another Oscar-recognized release in Brazil: “Se Eu Tivesse Pernas, Eu te Chutaria,” which secured a Best Actress nomination for Rose Byrne.

In Brazilian theaters since January 1, the film follows Linda (Byrne) as her life teeters on collapse. She juggles work and daily pressures while facing her daughter’s illness, an absent husband, a missing person case, and an unusual bond with her therapist (Conan O’Brien).

For the role, Byrne collected more than fifteen nominations, including wins at the Golden Globes and Berlin, both in 2025.

Oscar winners will be announced on March 15.
