Inspired by NASA’s Artemis II mission, “A Trip to the Moon” opens at Teatro Domingos Oliveira with weekend shows through April 26.
The countdown to imagination has begun at Teatro Domingos Oliveira, inside the Gávea Planetarium in Rio de Janeiro’s South Zone. The children’s show “Uma Viagem até a Lua” (A Trip to the Moon) runs every Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. through April 26, 2026. Tickets are R$ 50 (full price) and R$ 25 (half price), with no age restrictions.
A space adventure rooted in everyday wonder
Drawing on the excitement surrounding recent space exploration — particularly NASA’s Artemis II mission, which sent astronauts around the Moon — the show invites children and adults alike to embark on a playful, imaginative journey. At a time when space is back at the center of global conversation, the production arrives with impeccable timing.
The story follows Miguel, an 8-year-old boy who meets a quirky visitor from Jupiter who changes his name throughout the day: Túlio, Júlio, or Túlio Júlio. Together, they set off on a mission to bring joy to the Moon using ordinary objects and limitless creativity. Beneath the playful surface, the script weaves in themes of environmental awareness, empathy, and even grief — all handled with lightness and humor.
Musical theater, shadow puppetry and art-inspired visuals
The production blends musical theater, shadow puppetry, and visual references inspired by the Museum of Contemporary Art of Niterói (MAC). In just over 40 minutes, live music and accessible storytelling bring the cosmos closer to young audiences and spark creativity in every seat.

Larissa Lopes, who authored the original book and adapted it for the stage, says the show’s core mission is to reclaim imagination and screen-free play. The production is directed by Marcello Caridade, with music direction by Stefano Bravo and set design by Luma Wyzykowska. The cast features Nick Meirelles, Kaio Soares, and Camila Swan. The show is produced by Quintal Centro Cultural.
