On Feb. 25 at 8 PM, Ana Flavia Cavalcanti and Lilia Guerra perform a dramatic reading while the audience floats in a pool — free entry.
Literature from inside the water
Sesc 24 de Maio is turning its 13th-floor rooftop into a literary stage on February 25, 2026. Actress and director Ana Flavia Cavalcanti joins author Lilia Guerra for a public reading of excerpts from the novel “O Céu para os Bastardos” (Heaven for the Bastards) — and audience members can listen while floating on pool inflatables.
The event is part of “Ler à Luz da Lua” (Reading by Moonlight), a monthly project that has been gathering artists and writers at the unit’s rooftop since January. The concept blends performance, panoramic views of downtown São Paulo, and literary immersion — in the most literal sense.
How to get in the pool
There are 50 spots available for those who want to experience the reading from inside the water. Attendees must complete a free dermatological screening offered on-site (12th floor) from 6 PM on the day of the event and wear a swimsuit. No special membership is required.
Those who prefer to stay dry can watch from the surrounding deck, seated on chairs and cushions with a panoramic view of the city center. Deck spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Admission is free for both options. Tickets are distributed one hour before the event starts, directly at the venue.
About the novel
A finalist for the São Paulo Literature Prize, “O Céu para os Bastardos” follows Sá Narinha, a domestic worker thrust into the center of a family tragedy after her son commits a shocking crime. The story unfolds in “Fim do Mundo” (End of the World), a fictional neighborhood that mirrors the realities of São Paulo’s outskirts.
With both depth and lightness, Lilia Guerra explores urgent themes: racism, motherhood, guilt, prejudice, and the social fault lines of contemporary Brazil. The dramatic reading promises to bring these layers to life in an unforgettable setting.
“Ler à Luz da Lua” launched in January with singer Letrux and continues monthly, bringing together leading names from the arts and literature worlds.
What’s next
In March, the project welcomes Iara Rennó and Thalma de Freitas for a reading of the Brazilian modernist classic “Macunaíma” by Mário de Andrade, on March 25. The lineup confirms Sesc 24 de Maio as one of São Paulo’s most exciting literary venues.
