38 musicians, live ballet and visual projections: Humanitas Symphony Orchestra brings Classics of Cinema to São Paulo on April 9.
This is not just a concert. It is a direct encounter with everything symphonic music can still stir — chills, impact, and memory. On April 9, the Humanitas Symphony Orchestra takes the stage at Teatro J. Safra in São Paulo for two performances (3 PM and 8:30 PM), blending live concert, ballet, and visual projections into a single, immersive experience.
Leading 38 musicians, conductor Ricardo Calderoni — whose international career includes performances at Carnegie Hall — shapes a program built to move audiences from the very first note.
A program that opens with a bold statement
The show begins with the “Ode to Joy” from Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 — not as a formality, but as a declaration. From there, the program moves through the romanticism of La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi, the irresistible Can-Can by Jacques Offenbach, and the dramatic power of Carmen by Georges Bizet.
The mood shifts with the expressive grace of The Nutcracker by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky — light, yet dense with feeling. All pieces are performed with lyrics in Portuguese, drawing audiences even closer to the music.
Narration, dance, and a message for our times
Throughout the show, narrations place the works in a contemporary context, inviting the audience to reflect on environmental preservation, the fight against waste, and a vision of a sustainable future centered on well-being.
The concert gains a visual dimension through live ballet, choreographed by international dancer Juliana Gomes (Royal Academy of Dance), weaving movement and music into a unified artistic statement.
Vocal cast featuring TV and music stars
The choral ensemble features soloists known from Brazilian television and musical theater:
- Bernardo Berro — telenovela Amor Perfeito (TV Globo); musicals Addams Family and Peter Pan
- Jonathan Faria — Quintal da Cultura (TV Cultura)
- Ana Paula Moreti — Best Female Singer, Profissionais da Música Award 2025; international tours
- Leticia Paraizo — Musical Waitress
- Bruna Caram — miniseries Dois Irmãos
The production is supported by Brazil’s Lei Rouanet federal cultural incentive program.
