Thirteen authors launch a book, choirs perform, and a circus show hits Biblioteca Alceu Amoroso Lima in São Paulo — all free in the final week of February.
An exceptional week in Pinheiros
Biblioteca Alceu Amoroso Lima, located at Rua Henrique Schaumann, 777, in the Pinheiros neighborhood of western São Paulo, is hosting a packed schedule that blends literature, wellness, music, and circus arts. Organized by the City of São Paulo through the Municipal Secretary of Culture and Creative Economy, every event is free and open to the public.
Regular programming for seniors
The library runs a weekly series of activities designed for people aged 60 and over. Pilates 60+ takes place every Tuesday and Friday from 9–10 AM, while the Memory Training Workshop meets every Wednesday at 2 PM, using exercises and dynamics to sharpen focus and reasoning.
Every Thursday from 2–5 PM, the Backgammon Workshop brings together people of all ages around a classic strategy game, fostering intergenerational connection. The activity is open to everyone.
Book fair at Praça Benedito Calixto
On February 24, starting at 11 AM, the Pegue, Leve e Leia (“Take, Carry, and Read”) initiative takes over Praça Benedito Calixto. Visitors can choose up to two books from a curated selection, completely free of charge. The action promotes reading access and keeps books circulating throughout the community.
Circus show celebrates Carnival memories
On February 26 at 2 PM, the library stages Circo e Folia: Memórias de Carnaval (Circus and Revelry: Carnival Memories), performed by Cia Gravidade Virtual as part of the Biblioteca Viva Program. Running 60 minutes with free admission, the family-friendly show weaves together acrobatics, object manipulation, and comic interaction — all celebrating the colors and rhythms of Brazil’s most iconic festival.
Book launch and choral showcase close the month
February 28 brings two standout events. At noon, the auditorium hosts the Choral Showcase, featuring the groups Coral Encantes, EmCanto, and Horizonte Azul in a free performance celebrating music as a tool for collective expression.
At 12:30 PM, on the mezzanine, the library holds the launch of Tutano da Palavra (Marrow of the Word), published by Pitanga Editora. The event features a roundtable discussion and autograph session with authors Ana Carol Mesquita, Anna Clara de Vitto, Canhemborá, Elídia Novaes, Gabi Motta, Gaía Passarelli, Guiga Wolff, Julia Pedreira, Lívia Lima, Luara Carvalho, Mariana Lobato Botter, Michele Santos, and Thatiana Cardoso.
The launch of Tutano da Palavra brings together thirteen literary voices for an open conversation and autograph session — a celebration of contemporary Brazilian writing.
