Teatro Mágico, Grupo Triii, and Gigantes da Lira headline the free Festival Mundo Melhor, running May 1–3 at Cidade das Artes in Rio de Janeiro.
The Festival Mundo Melhor 2026 (Better World Festival) arrives in Rio de Janeiro with free admission and a lineup that blends theater, circus, live music, and environmental awareness. Over three days, Cidade das Artes in the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood becomes a vibrant hub for children, families, and culture lovers of all ages.
From Maceió to Rio: a festival on the rise
The festival debuted in 2025 in Maceió and now arrives in Rio for its second edition with an expanded program. It is quickly becoming one of Brazil’s most inspiring cultural events dedicated to children and families.
Festival founder and artistic director Gabriel Grossi sums up the spirit of the event:
Festival Mundo Melhor is born from affection, playfulness, imagination, and the power of art as a force for transformation — where each child turns the present into the future we dream of.
Day-by-day highlights
Friday, May 1
The opening day features “Azul”, a play by Artesanal Cia. de Teatro that sensitively portrays autism spectrum disorder through the eyes of Violeta, sister of the protagonist. The Tapetes Contadores de Histórias storytelling group follows with “Sol, Chuva e Tapete” at the Biblioteca Municipal Ziraldo. The afternoon brings circus performances by Intrépida Trupe, with the day closing with a show by Farra de Brinquedos.
Saturday, May 2
Banda Mirim kicks off the second day with the show “A Criança Mais Velha do Mundo” (The World’s Oldest Child). The Gigantes da Lira then take over the outdoor stage with their spectacular Aqualoucos Gigantes circus act. The day closes with Grupo Triii performing “Miudinho” at the Teatro de Câmara — the group behind the hit “Viro, Vira, Virou” promises to get kids and parents dancing together.
Sunday, May 3
Sunday opens with Cia Sonharteiros performing “Borboletas” (Butterflies). In the afternoon, Circo Dux presents “Mix Dux,” a showcase of the company’s best circus numbers. The festival closes with O Teatro Mágico and their brand-new show “A Primeira Cabeça na Lua” (The First Head on the Moon), blending original music, poetry, and circus arts.
Workshops, play, and education
Beyond the main stage, the festival offers creative workshops, outdoor games, and educational activities every day. The program encourages younger generations to explore themes like sustainability, diversity, and care for the planet in a playful and engaging environment.
The festival is made possible through Brazil’s Lei Rouanet cultural incentive law, with master sponsorship from Vale and sponsorship from Rede Itaú. Production by Ninas Agência Cultural; organized by GG Produções Artísticas, with support from Brazil’s Ministry of Culture.
