Free admission sets the tone as Metais à 5 takes over São Gonçalo Municipal Theater on April 15 with an educational instrumental concert.
Performed by musicians from the Metropolitan Philharmonic Orchestra, the project arrives on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 4 p.m. Its main goal is to bring public school students, teachers and members of social projects closer to high-quality instrumental music.
More than a standard concert, the presentation follows an inclusive and hands-on format. During the performance, the musicians explain how each instrument works, highlight its sound qualities and introduce key playing techniques.
Metais à 5 invests in audience building
With a strong educational approach, Metais à 5 features a repertoire created especially for a brass quintet made up of two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba. As a result, the concert becomes an interactive musical immersion designed to connect the community with the language of instrumental performance.
Leading the initiative, OFM conductor and the project’s artistic director Gustavo Fernandes says the experience is meant to leave a lasting mark on young audiences.
“O Metais à 5 nasceu do desejo de aproximar as pessoas da música instrumental de forma viva e acessível. Queremos que cada criança e jovem que assistir ao concerto saia sabendo mais sobre os instrumentos, sentindo a vibração do som e, quem sabe, se apaixonando pela música. Mais do que um concerto, é uma experiência que forma e transforma.”
Partnership expands cultural reach
The project has institutional support from Instituto dos Sonhos and is part of the organization’s Creative Incubator program. For founder and social activist Rafael Vieira, the partnership reinforces culture as a path to social transformation.
“Apoiar o Metais à 5 é acreditar no poder transformador da arte. Ao levar música de qualidade a públicos que muitas vezes não têm acesso, ampliamos horizontes e contribuímos para a formação de novas gerações.”
For more than 20 years, Instituto dos Sonhos has developed projects in culture, education, sports and sustainability. One of its main cultural initiatives, the Metropolitan Philharmonic Orchestra, combines artistic excellence with broader access to concert music and a strong commitment to Brazilian music.
The project is presented by the Federal Government, the Ministry of Culture, the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro and the State Department of Culture and Creative Economy of Rio de Janeiro through the Aldir Blanc National Policy. It also receives support from Instituto dos Sonhos, cultural support from the Metropolitan Philharmonic Orchestra and institutional support from Donna Lolla.
