The Metropolitan Philharmonic Orchestra launches its 2026 season at Rio’s Theatro Municipal on Feb. 10, with popular tickets priced at R$ 2.
The Orquestra Filarmônica Metropolitana (OFM), a flagship project of Instituto dos Sonhos founded in São Gonçalo, opens its annual calendar with the concert “Novos Horizontes.” The performance starts at 7 pm and kicks off a broader run of 2026 presentations, keeping cultural access at the center of the initiative.
“Novos Horizontes” sets the tone
As presented in the release, the 2026 season is built around the idea of music as a space for transformation and encounter. The concept aims to cross aesthetic borders and bring together different eras, languages, and audiences, bridging tradition and contemporary creation.
The opening program is described as a symbol of that expansion, designed to spark new ways of listening and signal the direction of the 2026 season across the months ahead.
Conducted by Gustavo Fernandes
The concert is led by conductor Gustavo Fernandes, OFM’s Artistic Director and Principal Conductor. Born in Itaocara, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, he highlights the season’s invitation to explore new listening paths while strengthening the orchestra’s bond with the community.
“With ‘Novos Horizontes,’ we want to invite the audience to discover new ways of listening, strengthening the community’s relationship with the orchestra.”
Popular pricing and social mission
Ticket pricing at R$ 2.00 reinforces the project’s commitment to welcoming broader audiences into concert halls. Instituto dos Sonhos founder Rafael Vieira frames each low-cost performance as a concrete step toward proving that top-level art can—and should—belong to everyone.
The season also emphasizes Brazilian and Rio de Janeiro state music. With roots in São Gonçalo, OFM expands its footprint and treats the city of Rio as a creative territory, bringing together historic composers, active creators, and emerging contemporary voices.
