MetrôRio is selling a return wristband for Shakira’s Copacabana concert starting at 6 AM Saturday. Siqueira Campos is the recommended station for the event.
Rio de Janeiro’s subway system is getting ahead of the post-show rush. Starting at 6 AM this Saturday (May 2), MetrôRio began selling a return wristband for passengers heading to the Todo Mundo no Rio concert featuring Shakira on Copacabana Beach. The wristband is handed out at the turnstile when riders pay their fare on the way in — a measure designed to keep the crowd moving when the show ends.
The combined fare is R$ 15.80 — R$ 7.90 each way — and can be paid with Riocard, Jaé, and Giro cards, or via contactless NFC payment using a credit or debit card, smartphone, or smartwatch. Wristband sales run until 10 PM at all stations except the three Copacabana stops.
Why Siqueira Campos is your best bet
MetrôRio strongly recommends using Siqueira Campos/Copacabana station for both arrival and departure. It has two access points, greater boarding capacity, a larger ticketing area, and a reinforced team on the ground. Given how close all three Copacabana stations are to the stage, crowds are expected to be massive — and flow control measures will be in place.
Cardeal Arcoverde/Copacabana station will be restricted to exit-only between 4 PM and 10 PM, and after that, boarding will only be allowed for passengers with pre-purchased cards or NFC payment. Cantagalo station will also operate around the clock alongside Siqueira Campos and Cardeal Arcoverde, all with extra security staff.
Special service schedule
The special operation runs from 5 AM Saturday through 11 PM Sunday (May 3). Overnight Saturday, Line 2 will run between Pavuna and General Osório/Ipanema, while Lines 1 and 4 will cover the Uruguai/Tijuca to Jardim Oceânico/Barra da Tijuca stretch — with all trains heading straight to the Copacabana stations. Transfers between Lines 1 and 2 during Saturday night can be made between General Osório and Central do Brasil.
From Sunday morning at 7 AM, Line 2 resumes normal service between Pavuna and Botafogo, with transfers between lines available at the Central do Brasil–Botafogo stretch. Lines 1 and 4 maintain the Uruguai–Jardim Oceânico corridor on both days.
What you cannot bring on board
MetrôRio is enforcing strict rules for the event period. Passengers may not board with large bags, coolers with ice, glass bottles, fireworks, beach chairs, bicycles, skateboards, roller skates, scooters, hoverboards, or surfboards. Alcohol and smoking are prohibited on trains and in stations. Boarding barefoot, shirtless, or in swimwear is also not allowed.
Seniors (65+), children under 7 accompanied by an adult with a valid fare card, and passengers with disabilities must show official identification at the turnstile to access free fare during the special operation.
