Five new concerts on SescTV explore Brazilian roots, afro-jazz and chamber music as spaces of invention and belonging.
In March, Instrumental Sesc Brasil highlights music as both memory and future. Recorded at Teatro Anchieta at Sesc Consolação and aired on Sundays at 9:30 p.m. on SescTV, the program features artists from different regions in live sessions that fuse tradition and experimentation.
From the countryside to spiritual jazz
It begins on March 1st with the Grande Banda do Sertão, a 16-piece band from São Luiz do Paraitinga that reinvents the legacy of Elpídio dos Santos. Blending rural roots and jazz phrasing, the group builds a sonic landscape that bridges past and present.
On March 8, bassist and singer Lua Bernardo presents Boia e Ilumina, where spiritual jazz, rapjazz and afrobeat create a floating, immersive mood. Her music moves between introspection and rhythm, rooted in the Afro-Atlantic heritage.
Women’s creativity at the center
On March 15, pianist Juliana Rodrigues leads Hexapoema, a sextet that explores the dialogue between jazz, samba and improvisation. The project merges musical form and social reflection through collective creation.
On March 22, Maíra Freitas (Ifátókí) and the all-women Jazz das Minas celebrate black music through an afro-samba-jazz circle. Piano, percussion and horns intertwine in a shared act of invention and ancestral strength.
Chamber music and diversity
Closing the month, the Ubuntu Ensemble (Mar 29) brings together black and brown classical musicians from across Brazil. Rooted in the philosophy “I am because we are,” the project reimagines chamber music as a collective, living art form.
