Samba Women and Bolivian Bloc Light Up Museum

A vibrant Bolivian bloc storms São Paulo’s Light Station as guided tours honor samba women: Museu da Língua Portuguesa kicks off February with free Carnival vibes and cultural returns.

Carnival with Bolivian Dance and Female Samba

On February 14, Saturday at 10am, the Education Team guides through the main exhibit Women in Samba. It spotlights Black composers and singers like Clementina de Jesus and Aracy de Almeida.

Next, February 21 at 2pm in the Central Hall, Tinkus Bolivia Wayna Lisos brotherhood performs Bolivian folk dances. Colorful costumes echo Oruro Carnival, a UNESCO Intangible Heritage gem.

Both events are free. The museum stays open through Carnival, closed only Mondays for upkeep.

Sarau and Plataforma Conexões Return

February 28, Saturday at 5pm on the terrace: first 2026 Sarau no Museu. Curated by Tarso de Melo with Círculo de Poemas, it honors Brazilian poets Adão Ventura, Donizete Galvão, Gilka Machado, and Julieta Barbara. Guests: Diogo Cardoso, Marcelo Ariel, Veronica Stigger, Zilmara Pimentel. Open mic welcome.

Same day at noon in the Central Hall: Plataforma Conexões debuts on “Urban Cultures and City Music Rhythms”. T.F. Cia de Dança kicks off with ELO choreography.

Special Tours for Every Crowd

Kids’ tour February 21 at 11am: playful games at Estação da Luz. February 28 at 3pm: full LIBRAS tour for Deaf visitors. Free; groups form 15 minutes early at Pátio A.

Exhibits on View

Main exhibit dives into Brazilian Portuguese language via interactive Falares – life-size screens of speakers from São Paulo, Acre, Amazonas.

FUNK: A Cry of Boldness and Freedom features 473 works. Curated by Taísa Machado et al. Funk’s path from U.S. Black music to São Paulo flair with artists like Tami Silva and Rafa Black. Rating: 14+.
