Cecília Kerche, Erika Novachi and more: São Paulo Escola de Dança opens free registrations for masterclasses and coaching in May 2026.São Paulo Escola de Dança, linked to the State of São Paulo’s Secretariat of Culture, Creative Economy and Industry and managed by Associação Pró-Dança, is launching the Jornada Paulista de Dança 2026 (São Paulo Dance Journey). The event is split into two stages: the first, in May, focused on training activities; and the second, in July, dedicated to performances and artistic exchanges between dance companies across the state. Registrations for the First Stage are open until April 22 at spescoladedanca.org.br.The initiative, driven by the São Paulo State Government, was born from a desire to build a space for dialogue and exchange among artists and students. It aims to strengthen the artistic community and encourage collective learning — celebrating the breadth of dance languages thriving in São Paulo today. All activities are free of charge, under the artistic and educational direction of Inês Bogéa and coordination by Gisela Tapioca.
Two days of immersion with leading dance artists
The First Stage takes place on May 29 and 30, bringing together four outstanding guests from Brazil’s dance scene: Cecília Kerche, Erika Novachi, Yoshi Suzuki and Binho Pacheco. A total of 100 spots are available across masterclasses, coaching sessions and creative workshops. On May 29, two simultaneous masterclasses take the stage: Cecília Kerche leads a session in classical ballet, while Erika Novachi teaches jazz dance. Kerche is a former principal dancer and director of the Ballet do Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro. Novachi is the artistic director and choreographer of Galpão 1 Cia. de Dança, one of Brazil’s foremost references in lyrical jazz.On May 30, the morning opens with classical variation coaching: Cecília Kerche works with dancers on feminine variations, while Yoshi Suzuki coaches the masculine variations. Suzuki is a soloist with São Paulo Companhia de Dança, where he has danced for 18 years, and is now launching his career as a choreographer. In the afternoon, Erika Novachi and Binho Pacheco lead choreography-focused workshops. Pacheco brings contemporary dance into focus, drawing on his work for the Conservatório Nacional de Lisboa and São Paulo Cia de Dança.The program also includes performances by the São Paulo Companhia Jovem de Dança on May 29, at 8:30 PM, at Estação Motiva Cultural: “Aroeira”, choreographed by Anelita Gallo, and “Carmen”, by Gisele Bellot. Admission is free for all registered participants.
“This first stage of the Jornada Paulista de Dança was born from a desire to create a space for encounter and exchange between artists and students, honoring the diversity of languages that make up today’s dance landscape. We have brought together professionals from very different paths — from classical ballet to jazz and contemporary dance — to share experiences, repertoires and creative processes. We believe this dialogue between different forms of expression strengthens artistic training and broadens the vision of those who live through dance.” — Inês Bogéa, artistic and educational director of São Paulo Escola de Dança
The activities are part of the São Paulo Escola de Dança 2026 Annual Activity Plan — PRONAC 256535 under the Lei de Incentivo à Cultura (Brazilian Cultural Incentive Law), sponsored by SAP and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Government of Brazil.
