The solo show Querida Mamãe (Dear Mom) arrives at the Teatro de Bolso Procópio Ferreira in Campos dos Goytacazes with free entry and a standout performance by Sirléa Aleixo, winner of the Shell Award for Best Actress 2025 — one of the most prestigious honors in Brazilian theater. Alone on stage, she delivers a performance that blends sharp comedy with genuine emotional depth.
An official tribute to Dario Fo’s centenary
The production was selected as one of the official shows for the international celebrations of the Dario Fo Centenary, organized by the Fondazione Fo Rame. The initiative gathers productions from multiple countries to honor the Italian playwright and Nobel Prize in Literature laureate, widely regarded as one of the most influential voices in world theater.
Based on the text La Mamma Fricchettona, co-written by Dario Fo and Franca Rame, the monologue follows a traditional housewife who starts questioning her values and routines after getting a glimpse into her son’s countercultural world. The piece finds its strength in balancing laughter with pointed observations about motherhood, family dynamics, and social change.
Rooted in popular theater and commedia dell’arte, the production bets on closeness with the audience and a direct theatrical language that balances comedy and social critique.
Direction, translation, and accessibility
Directed and translated by Yuri Negreiros, the show is produced by the Núcleo de Experimentos Cênicos (NEC). All sessions include a Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) interpreter, making the experience accessible to deaf audiences. The production is funded through Brazil’s Política Nacional Aldir Blanc (PNAB), via the Fundação Cultural Jornalista Oswaldo Lima.
