Facing an imminent storm, the play “Temporal” by Giovanna Nader and Vino Fragoso questions how we experience — and waste — time today.
From March 5 to April 26, the Teatro Poeirinha in Botafogo hosts the premiere of “Temporal,” the first artistic collaboration between Giovanna Nader and Vino Fragoso. Directed by Marco André Nunes with text by Carolina Lavigne, the piece reflects on our relationship with time in an age of acceleration, misinformation, and emotional fatigue.
The story follows Hortência (Nader), returning to her hometown in search of what was left unresolved, and Hélio (Fragoso), who never left. Between motion and stillness, they embody two ways of existing. As a storm looms over the city, their personal struggle becomes a metaphor for our collective instability.
“We were summoned by time to inhabit the present. If the audience feels that too, our mission is complete,” says Vino Fragoso.
Designed by Vino Fragoso with lighting by Renato Machado, the play immerses the audience in a retrofuturist atmosphere dominated by shades of blue. The ticking of a clock echoes through the space—a reference to the real Doomsday Clock, now marking just 85 seconds before midnight.
Playwright Carolina Lavigne sees time as the core of theater: “Theater only exists in the instant it happens. ‘Temporal’ allows me to imagine a present crossed by memories and projections.”
“Through playfulness, we invite reflection on time—perhaps the most precious resource we still have,” adds Giovanna Nader.
