Rio trio claims back-to-back titles at Brazil’s top Passinho competition after a dramatic tiebreaker and a fierce final at Circo Voador.
Back-to-back champions at a packed Circo Voador
The Red Bull Rabiscada delivered its most electrifying edition yet last Saturday (28) at the iconic Circo Voador in Rio de Janeiro. In front of a sold-out crowd, the trio Reis da Dança — made up of André DB, Peterson Sidy, and VN Rodrigues — claimed the national championship for the second consecutive year, cementing their status as the dominant force in competitive Passinho.
The road to the title was anything but smooth. In the semifinals, a deadlocked battle against Os Amantes da Dança forced a sudden-death one-on-one tiebreaker, pushing the energy in the room to its peak. In the final, Reis da Dança faced Os Fabulosos in a technically demanding showdown and held their ground to seal the back-to-back title.
It was hard but not impossible. Passinho is a wide spectrum, and every time the other crew came at us with something, we had an answer. Seeing other dance styles at the event was important — it pushed us out of our comfort zone and showed us we can do way more than just Passinho Foda — Peterson Sidy, member of Reis da Dança
A format built to test adaptability
Curated by Severo IDD, the competition ran across three rounds: free-style entry, group choreography, and a high-BPM speed round. Each stage challenged not only technical skill but also each trio’s ability to sync up under pressure. Judges Arielle Macedo, Celly IDD, and Markin evaluated the performances, while the audience also had a direct vote — making the crowd an active part of the competition itself.
This feeds me. Seeing so many different bodies, different stories expressed through movement — it makes my own dancing grow. I was here as a judge, but I was learning too. My advice: never forget your roots, keep studying, because dance keeps moving. Never think you’re good enough — always reach for more, to become a well-rounded artist — Arielle Macedo, dancer and choreographer for Anitta
L7nnon, the Kenner Ball, and Vogue Funk on stage
The night reached another level when L7nnon — an artist with deep ties to Passinho culture — took the stage to present the trophy to the champions. He then headlined the Baile da Kenner, performing his biggest hits and keeping the crowd going until the very end. The evening also featured a Vogue Funk side act by the group Legacy, a DJ set by Iasmin Turbininha, and performances by Oz Crias and Trilogia do Santo Amaro.
The level of competition was surreal — everyone was killing it. Favela culture and Passinho give empowerment and self-esteem to young people from the periphery. Seeing an event of this scale, with a majority Black audience… it was a beautiful celebration. I’m so happy to have been part of this day — L7nnon
From Belo Horizonte to Vidigal: a growing movement
Before the Rio final, Red Bull Rabiscada held two qualifying rounds that expanded the competition’s reach across Brazil. The first took place in Belo Horizonte — a landmark moment marking the event’s debut in Minas Gerais and highlighting Passinho’s national presence. The second was held in Vidigal, bringing together talent from both Rio and BH. The event is officially supported by Kenner, part of Grupo S2, which partners with Red Bull in championing urban culture.
