Samba and womens empowerment meet in Rios North Zone

On Sunday (March 29), the “Entre Vozes e Samba” free gathering brings together women for debates, cultural activities, and wellness services in Pilares.

Rio de Janeiro’s North Zone will host a powerful convergence of voices this Sunday, March 29. The event “Entre Vozes e Samba: Mulheres em Ritmo de Transformação” (Between Voices and Samba: Women in the Rhythm of Transformation) takes place at the Quadra da Difícil é o Nome in Pilares, starting at 9 a.m., with free admission.

Born from the heart of carnival

The event was conceived by Isabelle Amaral, drum queen of the samba school Difícil é o Nome and muse of União do Parque Acari. Her vision is to create a welcoming space where women can openly discuss issues that shape their daily lives — from racial literacy and financial independence to healthcare, representation, and women’s role in Brazilian carnival culture.

Beyond conversation panels, the program includes cultural activities and free services in beauty, aesthetics, and health — a practical approach to boosting self-esteem and honoring femininity in its full complexity.

• Luana Estrela — biomedical scientist and queen of Império Serrano
• Marcele Oliver — educator and founder of Instituto Avança Nega
• Nilce Fran — vice president of Portela and advocate for women’s recognition in carnival
