The technical challenge of pattern making
Beachwear requires extreme precision. Elastic fabrics must hold without compressing, and every element — from strap placement to underwire fit — affects comfort. When pattern grading fails to follow body proportions, discomfort and constant adjustments appear.For example, some people have smaller busts but broader backs — a combination that challenges standard sizing. “Fixing those proportions requires structural adjustments, like redistributing back width and refining armhole depth,” explains Karine Strapazzon, founder of Arsie.
Pattern design as Arsie’s signature
At Arsie, the creative process starts with the belief that no body is standard. Multiple pattern bases are developed to fit different proportions, allowing customers to find a truly functional piece. “Each body demands a different solution,” says Karine.The same logic applies to bottoms, with thongs, comfort thongs, shorts, high-waisted, string, and ruched “bombom” styles. Some come with adjustable gathers that redefine coverage. “Small details completely change how a piece fits,” adds the designer.
