Bright, aromatic, and increasingly popular, Sauvignon Blanc is reshaping white wine consumption in Brazil. Market data reflects the shift: white wines grew from 19% of total consumption in 2019 to 22% in 2025.

At the center of this growth is a grape known for sharp acidity and expressive aromas. Celebrated worldwide on May 1, Sauvignon Blanc adapts easily to climate, producing wines that range from crisp and herbal to lush and tropical.

According to sommelier Diego Peres Ávila of Bodegas Grupo Wine, its defining trait is its ability to mirror terroir. Cooler regions yield mineral-driven wines, while warmer climates highlight pineapple, passion fruit, and peach notes.

A tour across Latin terroirs

To mark Sauvignon Blanc Day, five labels from across Latin America showcase how geography shapes flavor — from Chile’s coastlines to Argentina’s high-altitude vineyards and Uruguay’s maritime influence.

The U by Undurraga Sauvignon Blanc Suave offers a slightly sweeter profile balanced by acidity, making it an approachable introduction for new drinkers.

From Uruguay, Pueblo del Sol Sauvignon Blanc captures coastal freshness with vibrant acidity and fruity notes, ideal for seafood pairings.

Argentina’s Portillo Sauvignon Blanc, from the Uco Valley, reflects altitude with a clean, refreshing style suited for everyday drinking.

For more complexity, Casas del Toqui Gran Reserva Sauvignon Blanc gains depth from lees aging in stainless steel, resulting in a fuller, structured profile.

Finally, the T.H. Valle de Leyda Sauvignon Blanc demonstrates precision winemaking. With coastal influence and six months on lees, it delivers creamy texture, citrus intensity, and mineral notes, earning 95 points from Descorchados.

A grape built for versatility

More than just refreshing, Sauvignon Blanc proves highly adaptable at the table. Whether for casual moments or refined pairings, its range continues to expand both its audience and its reputation.
