A Brazilian sparkling wine triumphs in Cannes, putting Vale dos Vinhedos on the world map for traditional method excellence.
The Miolo Millésime Brut 2020 has been awarded a Gold Medal at the Vinalies Internationales 2026, held in Cannes, France. The accolade reinforces Miolo Wine Group‘s standing as one of Brazil’s most internationally recognized producers of traditional method sparkling wines.
A legendary vintage, a consistent achievement
First launched in 2004, the Miolo Millésime Brut has grown into one of Brazil’s most sought-after sparkling wines. The label was previously named the best traditional method sparkling wine from the Southern Hemisphere by renowned critic Steven Spurrier. The Cannes gold medal adds to this legacy of excellence, confirming the outstanding quality of the 2020 vintage.
The wine carries the Vale dos Vinhedos Denomination of Origin (DOVV) and is made exclusively from grapes grown in Miolo’s own São Gabriel vineyard, in the Vale dos Vinhedos region. The blend combines 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, with hand-harvested clusters and gentle pressing that yields only the finest free-run juice at a 50% extraction rate.
Technical precision from vineyard to cellar
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures to preserve freshness and elegance. The second fermentation occurs in the bottle, where the wine rests for a minimum of 18 months on its lees in underground cellars. This extended autolysis develops creaminess, complexity, and the sophisticated notes that define the label.
The process concludes with riddling (remuage) and disgorgement (dégorgement), steps that ensure purity, precision, and refinement in every bottle. From grape selection to cellar, each decision is made with absolute rigor to reveal balance and elegance.
Terroir and identity at the core
Millésime is born from respect for time and origin. Each vintage is unique and demands precise decisions from the vineyard to the cellar. This international recognition shows we are successfully translating, with fidelity, the identity of our terroir into a world-class sparkling wine.
Adriano Miolo, CEO of Miolo Wine Group
For Adriano Miolo, the award goes beyond a medal. It reflects the winery’s ability to interpret different Brazilian terroirs and craft wines with a distinctive identity, blending tradition and innovation. The Vinalies victory adds to a growing list of international accolades that position Miolo among the leading names in global viticulture.
