Glitter, bold colors, and daring textures: nail designer Ana Berniz shares how to keep your nails in full festive mode beyond the official Carnival days.
Brazil’s Carnival doesn’t stop on Ash Wednesday. The legendary post-Carnival street parties — known as blocos de ressaca — keep the celebrations going through the end of February, while the Champions’ Parade extends the spectacle even further. Throughout it all, carnival nail art remains one of the most visible style statements of the season.
Ana Berniz, nail designer and expert at Perfumaria Sumirê, says Carnival is the perfect moment to experiment with trends that blend fashion, culture, and lifestyle. “Intense shimmer, vibrant colors, and striking finishes capture the energy of Carnival on your nails. Metallic effects, luminous particles, and mirror finishes match the rhythm of the street parties and parades,” she says.
Influencers, samba queens, and icons like Juliana Paes have already embraced bold nail art featuring rhinestones, mixed textures, and luminous details — looks set to shine even brighter at the Champions’ Parade.
1. Go all in on glitter
After starring in Carnival looks, glitter is nowhere near done. On nails, it ranges from fine, delicate sparkles to bold, eye-catching effects that reflect light, movement, and energy — all essential elements of the festival spirit.
“The trick is to pair glitter with milky or translucent polishes for a modern look that still delivers impact. Holographic, colored, or mixed-texture glitter all work beautifully. For a longer-lasting option, go for gel-effect or encapsulated glitter polishes — they hold up through every last dance.” — Ana Berniz, nail designer and expert at Perfumaria Sumirê
2. Vibrant colors + playful nail art
Bold colors remain the hallmark of the Carnival aesthetic. Shades like hot pink, red, orange, blue, green, yellow, and purple pulse with the energy of street parties, costumes, and the cultural diversity that defines the celebration.
“Neons, metallics, and tropical hues are the essence of Carnival. To make nails even more festive, try colorful French tips, a different shade on each nail, graphic designs, waves, hearts, stars, dots, and organic shapes — turning your nails into a canvas for personal expression.” — Ana Berniz, nail designer and expert at Perfumaria Sumirê
3. Play with textures
Beyond color, nail textures are having a major moment — adding depth and visual interest that works like a wearable accessory, complementing costumes, makeup, and full festival looks.
“Polishes with shimmer particles, pearlescent finishes, holographic effects, and targeted embellishments add dimension and elevate even the simplest looks. The key is applying textures strategically — so you get durability and comfort without sacrificing visual impact.” — Ana Berniz, nail designer and expert at Perfumaria Sumirê
