Born in Belo Horizonte’s streets
Two Minas Gerais talents form an exciting duo. Vitória Pires, samba and percussion powerhouse, joins Gabriel Haddad, carnival block composer, after street music meetups. Singles hit streaming on January 23.Mutual admiration sparked it. “We’d bump into each other at blocks, dreaming of creating together,” Vitória recalls. Gabriel shared remote ideas; she returned lyrics that became “Canto e Danço”.
Every meetup surprised us—each one birthed at least one song, effortlessly.
Weekly sessions fueled a songbook too strong for solo projects. It demanded its own identity.
Two tracks, endless harmony
“Canto e Danço” invites gentle dance. Quaternary verses shift to waltz chorus, weaving intimate vocal dialogue. Gabriel calls it a shift from daily stress to peace.“Calmaria” throbs with ijexá beat, channeling carnival processions and urban strides. “The rhythm feels like walking the streets,” Vitória says. Lyrics urge dropping fear for pure dance surrender.Fernando Caneca produces (credits include Caetano Veloso, Marisa Monte), with mixes by Junior Tostói and mastering by Renato Alscher. Arrangements feature cello, flute, and accordion.
